Update: ENWIN Extends Moratorium on Hydro Disconnection
March 20, 2020
Windsor, ON: On March 17, 2020, ENWIN Utilities Ltd. (ENWIN) announced that the company was voluntarily joining many other Ontario LDC’s in offering relief to residential electricity customers whose accounts are in arrears.
Yesterday, the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) confirmed an official moratorium on electricity disconnections for non-payment for all residential customers, effective until July 31, 2020. Low-volume consumers, such as small businesses, who annually use less than 150,000 kilowatt hours will now also be protected by the ban.
“We share the goal of the Hon. Greg Rickford, Minister of Energy, Northern Development & Mines, and the Hon. Bill Walker, Associate Minister of Energy, to provide hard-working residential and small business customers this added security,” said ENWIN CEO Helga Reidel. “We will continue to support our customers during this difficult time and we encourage those who have account questions to contact us by phone or by email.”
ENWIN will continue to issue late notices to residential and small business cusåtomers who fall behind in their obligations, but will not send disconnection notices, make 48-hour disconnect calls, or disconnect residential or low-volume consumers.
“The safety and well-being of our community is always our main concern,” Reidel concluded. “Our call centre remains open to help customers work through the impacts of this emergency together.”
