Valve Maintenance
Valve exercising is very important should the need arise to close or isolate a street in case of a water main break or other events. We conduct our maintenance based on the size of valves.
Hydrant Maintenance
In the City of Windsor, there are approximately 7500 hydrants, which are checked annually (at a minimum) to verify they are operational and not frozen during the winter months.
Windsor Utilities Commission ensures that hydrant maintenance takes place throughout the year.
This involves:
- Flowing the hydrant to ensure the secondary valve is open (making sure water is available for fire fighting purposes).
- Checking all components.
- Flow testing.
- Ensuring colour coding is accurate and the hydrant is labelled with the correct flow reflective marker.
