ENWIN Supports Education Opportunities for Serving Soldiers

Windsor, ON: Even in the midst of a global pandemic, ENWIN Utilities Ltd. (ENWIN) recognises and values the enormous contribution of our military. Through an ongoing community support partnership with the Windsor Regiment Association (WRA), the utility has once again presented three educational scholarships to soldiers serving in the Regiment. 

“If ever there was a year needing some good news, it would be 2020,” said Colonel (ret'd.) John Celestino.  “COVID has struck hard at all of Canada's population including the military, and ENWIN’s generous assistance has helped relieve the financial hardships endured by soldier-students. We are grateful to the leadership and personnel of ENWIN for their deep commitment to our Regimental Family.” 

During a private, ceremony at the Windsor Regiment Association (closed to media and the pubic due to COVID-19), LCol Chris Quinlan named the recipients of three $500 scholarships to support continuing veteran education: Corporal Lillian Gilliland, Trooper Jordon Fewster and Corporal Nathan Johnson.

“We are delighted to recognise the significance of these young veterans to our country,” said ENWIN Manager Corporate Communications, Barbara Peirce Marshall. “It is our honour to support them in their career development.”

ENWIN’s support of returning vets through the Windsor Regiment Association began in 2018 as a project of the ENWIN Community Support Committee, a group of ENWIN volunteers from across the company dedicated to finding ways to help support the community they serve. ENWIN announced Saturday that its Community Support Committee has voted to extend the scholarship awards program into 2021.

“No army can function without the support of the citizens it serves, and no community can prosper without the dedication of a loyal army,” responded Col. Celestino. “ENWIN's commitment to Canada's military through The Windsor Regiment serves as a shining example of this essential and interdependent relationship.” 

“Our employees recognise the importance of helping those who help our country and our freedom,” Peirce Marshall added. “We are proud and happy to support where we can.”

About the Windsor Regiment Association: The Windsor Regiment Association, Royal Canadian Armoured Corps. (RCAC), is a registered Canadian charity which fosters and promotes the well-being of the Regimental family, protects and promotes historical and cultural military traditions and develops camaraderie among its members and the community. Since its inception in 1994, the Association has raised over $200,000 in donations, and assisted in the publication of the Regimental history: The Black Beret, the procurement of new instruments for the Regimental Band, the issuance of traditional dress blues and the continued maintenance of Regimental ties through reunions, communiques, parades and community events.
