ENWIN Supports E.L.K. Energy’s Enhanced Reliability with Second Feed in Lakeshore

ENWIN and E.L.K. Energy are proud to announce a major infrastructure improvement for customers in Lakeshore. E.L.K. Energy successfully commissioned a second hydro feed to the Town, increasing capacity and redundancy within the community.

Previously, Lakeshore was served by a single feeder from the Belle River Transformer Station. With the addition of the new feeder, each line will now supply half of the community’s load. This upgrade significantly improves reliability by reducing outage impact.

With this infrastructure upgrade, either line can supply power to the entire Lakeshore community served by E.L.K. Energy. In the event of a feeder outage, only half the community would be affected, and service can be quickly restored by switching to the unaffected feeder, resulting in faster restoration and improved reliability.

Looking ahead, ENWIN’s investments into E.L.K. Energy’s service territories will include the implementation of smart switching technology. These upgrades are projected to begin in 2026.

Today, switches are operated manually by on-site crews, whereas automated switches allow remote operation within minutes, saving time and reducing outage duration. This technology communicates to control rooms to speed up power restoration in the event of a supply loss, significantly reducing outage times. This investment is part of a broader plan to build a more storm-resistant, resilient grid that will require continued investment and time.
