Windsor, ON: ENWIN Utilities Ltd. (ENWIN) has won a top utilities public safety award from the Electricity Distributors Association (EDA).

When the top-performing electricity utilities from across Ontario were honoured last night at the EDA Awards Gala in Toronto, Ysni Semsedini, the newly appointed Chair of the EDA, presented the ENWIN with the Public Electrical Safety Excellence Award, sponsored by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA).

The award recognizes ENWIN’s Safety Powerplay campaign – a multi-media partnership with Windsor’s OHL Junior Hockey team, the Windsor Spitfires, that harnessed the power of sports marketing to inspire positive associations, and help customers internalise safety related messages. The campaign delivered six ESA power line safety messages via social media and broadcast networks during Spitfire power plays throughout the hockey season, achieving more than 65 million impressions in six months.

“We wanted to reach the customer demographic most at risk for electrical accidents,” said Barbara Peirce Marshall, Manager Corporate Communications. “It just happened that they also love hockey. We owe a big thank you to the Spits and their media partners at CKLW, Cogeco/YourTV and Intense Media, for helping us get the message out.”

ENWIN President & CEO Helga Reidel thanked the EDA and the ESA for their recognition of ENWIN as a top performing utility, and commended the ENWIN Communications team for their dedication to community safety education.

“This is a proud day for ENWIN,” she said. “The award sends a clear message about who we are and how much we value community safety. At ENWIN, we take safety very seriously – safety of our employees and safety of the public. We are really very grateful for the recognition."
