Annual Program Ensures Safe Fire Hydrant Pressure

April 25, 2019

Windsor, ON:  To ensure a safe level of water pressure is available at fire hydrants to serve our community, ENWIN is conducting its annual Water System Flushing program across Windsor.

The program will begin on April 29 and run until October 4, with operations occurring between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The initial area of flushing operations is bounded by: Tecumseh Road to the north, Division Road to the south, Howard Avenue to the west and Riberdy Avenue to the east, between the dates of April 29 and June 7.

ENWIN’s schedule for upcoming areas of pressure testing will be advertised every Saturday in the Windsor Star. For daily information about where we are working, customers can follow ENWIN on our Twitter feed, @ENWINUtilities, or see the Hydrant System Flushing Map available on ENWIN's website.

Customers located in the targeted flushing areas may notice some mild discolouration and sedimentation while the flushing is taking place. ENWIN assures customers that this is NOT harmful and should clear up after running their water tap for several minutes.

You can minimize any short term disruptions by observing the following:

  • Fill some containers with water you may require during the duration of the work.
  • Laundry may be damaged due to discolouration of the water. Please avoid doing laundry until the flushing has completed work in your neighbourhood for that day.
  • Try not to run any hot water taps, as some discoloured water and sediment may be drawn into your hot water heater.
  • When the system flushing is finished and you notice discolouration, flow cold water through your interior faucets until the water is clear before drinking.

SCHEDULE

ENWIN’s schedule for upcoming areas of testing will be advertised every Saturday in the Windsor Star. For daily information about where we are working, customers can follow ENWIN on our Twitter feed, @ENWINUtilities.
