Power Restoration in 800 Block of Wyandotte

May 24, 2016

Windsor ON: ENWIN responded yesterday and throughout the day today to the needs of the community, resulting from a fire in the 800 block of Wyandotte Avenue.

ENWIN responded to the fire call by servicing a transformer in the immediate vicinity at 9:10 a.m. on May 23, 2016. At that time, 33 customers were impacted on Wyandotte, Brant, Marentette and Parent.

At 9:51 a.m., at the request of Windsor Fire & Rescue Services, our crews isolated a section of line, temporarily cutting power to 194 additional customers between Riverside Drive, Wyandotte, Marentette and Parent, to provide clearance for fire fighters’ aerial equipment. The power to the 194 additional customers was restored at 10:05 a.m., but the original outage to the 33 customers, located in the immediate vicinity, remained.

When Windsor Fire & Rescue reported that ENWIN could begin restoration and repair work, ENWIN’s crews found work was needed to restring a significant length of cable that had been damaged during the fire.

At 6:59 p.m. power was again cut to the 194 customers between Riverside Drive and Wyandotte in order for ENWIN crews to begin work. They restored power to these customers again at 8:22 p.m. The original 33 customers were still without power while the work concentrated on the area in the immediate vicinity of the fire.

ENWIN completed most temporary repairs at approximately 3:20 a.m., this morning. Power to the 33 customers initially impacted has been restored, except for those directly impacted by the fire. As of noon, today, there was one customer in an adjacent building, waiting for Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) inspection to authorize a reconnection of service.

ENWIN will make further repairs to the streetlight feed wire, when we are able to do so safely and with approval from Windsor Fire & Rescue Services. We thank our customers for their patience, and Windsor firefighters for their help in keeping the community and our workers safe.
