The Power to Learn: Grade 9 Students Visit ENWIN for Take Our Kids to Work Day

November 3, 2017

Windsor ON: Every year, ENWIN hosts the Grade 9 students who are the children of our employees for a day of job-site learning in the electricity and water divisions.

This year, students were encouraged to take part in all types of outdoor and indoor work activities. The day’s learning included aspects of overhead and underground electricity and water operations and – of course – lessons in on-the-job safety.

During an interactive portion of the day, the students were able to try their hand at a number of field activities – backhoe, front end loader, crane and mini derrick operating, spraying water with a fire hose, manhole entry and rescue simulations, switching, fault finding and cable locating and of course, harnessing-up to take a ride in an ENWIN bucket truck.

The rest of the day consisted of a safety presentation, tours of the Rhodes Drive Operating Site and A.H. Weeks Water Treatment Plant, as well as a visit to the site of the new George Avenue Reservoir.

The students showed tremendous enthusiasm throughout the day and were always willing to participate.

The action-packed experience provided a true glimpse into the work life of an ENWIN employee and gave students a chance to connect with professionals in the work place.

Many thanks to all ENWIN employees who took part in planning and participating in the successful day.
