WUC Ensures Safe Reliable Water Future ENWIN Team Begins Construction of a New Reservoir
February 17, 2017
Windsor, ON: Recognizing a need to continue to protect a reliable source of safe drinking water for the Windsor area, the ENWIN team will begin construction of new 35 million litre water reservoir. The new reservoir will be located on the existing George Avenue Park property located at the south-east corner of Wyandotte St. E. and George Avenue. Once the project is complete, the City of Windsor Parks Department will return the property to a public park. Since the activity around the construction site will soon be underway, the ENWIN team is in the process of reminding residents in the area and across the city, about the project.
WHAT WILL IT COST?
An Environmental Assessment (Class EA) study has identified the parameters for the proposed reservoir with respect to size and location. The total project costs including reservoir construction and interconnections to the existing facilities is estimated at $25 million.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2017 and will be completed by the Fall of 2018.
WHY DO WE NEED IT?
The existing water reservoir at the A.H. Weeks WTP is a single cell reservoir, which would be challenged in its ability to provide water to our service area, should it need to do so while undergoing maintenance or repairs. The new reservoir will allow the production, storage and delivery of water to continue even if Reservoir ‘D’ is temporarily out of service.
